1) Explicit, systematic literacy instruction is the correct course to take for our children.
2) Change is necessary because SJUSD CAN do better but we must work smarter, not harder.
3) It is our larger San Juan community who must address our district's literacy crisis, not any other group, because these are OUR children.
4) We must lay down our own personal political affiliations when we are active in this group because we recognize that ALL adults just want their children to be able to read and write.
5) It IS possible to set high expectations AND promote joy for literacy at the same time.
6) We will help SJRW amplify teachers and parents who are making change.
7) SJRW will not waste time by endlessly talking about mistakes of the past. We are moving forward.
8) SJRW will NOT endorse school board candidates. SJRW will engage with any candidate for and any person elected to the SJUSD school board.
9) We will be ready to serve on any committee SJUSD might establish that will imagine district-wide literacy reforms.
10) This group should cease to exist within 4 years. If this group is still active then it means that SJUSD has not initiated major reform.
