Connect with K-5/6 and K-8 school PTAs and share ELA caaspp data in comparison to other schools with similar demographics.
Build a strong social media presence on Facebook.
Continuously urge people to sign the Petition for Change. It is likely that petition signature gathering will also happen in front of commercial store-fronts and at community events.
Send SJRW information to schools through snail-mail.
2x monthly office-hours at Starbucks at Madison and Manzanita. Saturdays 10-11am to talk reading and writing and data.
Monthly zoom meetings for parents and teachers to talk reading and writing.
Year 2: 2026-2027
Make sure that SJRW has at least one representative from each of our 41 K-5/6 K-8 schools. SJUSD has teacher literacy liaisons at most school sites who help share information on literacy with staff.
Continue Year 1 efforts.
Year 3: 2027-2028
Continue Year 1 and Year 2 efforts.
Hold in-person literacy education nights. Educate parents on assessments and how to help their children.
Present signatures of Petition for Change to the district.
Year 4: 2028-2029
Cease to exist. The district, by year 4, will have an established working group of teachers, parents, students, and administrators who will work together to reform our school district's approach to literacy. All work done by SJRW will be folded into SJUSD.
